middle of the wk alr, though it's only wk 2 now. got 4 hrs of lectures lined up later today...wonder how i'll survive...
the weather here changes so drastically. yst afternoon, b4 my lect, the sun was nice & warm. some crazy ppl living at my hostel were even suntanning at the open field behind my hostel (suntanning in winter!!!). so i thot since the weather's so comfortable today, i'll juz pull over a jacket over my t-shirt & wear slippers to lectures. tt plan worked well initially; evn with so thin clothes on, i was feeling hot inside. aft lect, i went to lib to use their free internet services (haha, thriftness is a virtue). by the time i left, the sky was dark alr. once i stepped outside, my toes froze!! my feet were numb!! it was so damn cold, my goodness. and though the hostel is on campus, the walk back to hostel seemed extremely long last night!! my poor toes. thank goodness it's not snowing, otherwise i'd definitely have lost them to frost bite. one very impt lesson i learnt yst: never wear slippers out in winter, the weather can be deceiving.
there was this census form everyone had to fill up last night. it's basically a questionaire set by the aus stat dept to find out the population distribution in aus. they wanna know the places ppl live at, their marital status & stuff. how come sg doesn't conduct such surveys?
anyway, on mon, i received an sms from my sec sch teacher. surprises isn't always pleasant. he msged to inform the passing of my chem teacher. she passed away on sun aft a cancer relapse. i was shocked when i read the text. everyone kind of expected this day would be coming, but we all din know when. she had breast cancer while she was teaching me (my class) in sec 3, so she took a few months off for treatment. in sec 4, she came back aft she was cleared of cancer. her hair was juz abt 2cm short at that time. i can still rmb how almost everyone in class got scolded by her b4, how strict she'd be, always preaching to us her beliefs, how her small hunchbacked frame can instill fear from 10m away, her eyes which form a straight line whenever she does laugh...
she was scary, prob evn fearsome. she's the type of teachers everyone would have had at least once b4 in their entire schooling life, whose mere presence can sent shivers down your spine. but nonetheless, she's a well-respected figure. i can't evn rmb wad was the last words i spoke to her, & the last time i saw her was prob when i went back to collect my Os. i nv met her aft tt, though i heard tt her cancer relapsed, and she refused treatment. she chose to stay home & spend her remaining time with her parents. her death still feels so surreal; i can still picture her standing in front of me, scolding me for sth & i'll juz stand there like a fool letting her berate me. sigh...God bless
